Eight Facts


I have been incredibly lazy, mainly about actually uploading pictures so that I have something to post. I am moving in a few days and trying to pack and send cover letters in for jobs. I did want to post something, so I'm filling eight random facts about myself below:

Random Fact about Me #1:
I have two cats.

Random Fact about Me #2:
I hate running. It is about the last thing I would want to do.

Random Fact about Me #3:
I've been doing martial arts since I was in sixth grade.

Random Fact about Me #4:
I became vegan in January 2010. As someone who ate a lot of eggs and cheese and ice cream, I've been surprised by how, for the most part, I haven't really had cravings for those things.

Random Fact about Me #5:
When I was four, I liked to play Ninja Turtles, although I had never seen the TV show and had very little idea of what they were.

Random Fact about Moi #6:
My undergraduate degree was in journalism, but none of my varied potential careers at this point involve being a print journalist.

Random Fact about Me #7:
In my ice cream, the more stuff the better. This is why I used to love Ben and Jerry's, and I'll often mix plain ice cream with cookies or brownies.

Random Fact about Me #8:
I own way too many books.

And this is Tadhg. Pronounced like the first half of Tiger. I got them my third year of college when I was living off-campus and realized that, yes, I could have animal companionship!

I’m not very good at introductions. I am starting a blog, which I think at the moment will be mostly about food, in light of my recentish conversion to veganism and desire to experiment more in the kitchen.

Now, I have a picture of my dinner, but I want to preface it, because I feel like it looks like I didn’t eat anything. And I actually eat quite a lot. This morning, I had crew practice at 5:45, and I overslept, so I grabbed a muffin on my way out the door. After practice, we went out to breakfast, where I had homefries, toast with jelly, sauteed spinach and mushrooms, and tea. Then I got home, napped a bit, and decided that I needed more caffeine, so I had some coffee with Silk soy creamer and sugar, and another muffin.

I made the muffins last night. They’re the cocoa raspberry muffins from Vegan Brunch, but I used a frozen mix of raspberries, blackberries, blueberries, and cherries. I think cherries make anything better. I also added almond slivers on top.

Anyway, at this point I was pretty stuffed, so I delayed lunch for a while, and around 4, I had some leftover udon noodles with miso, soy sauce, and flax oil. So I didn’t have dinner until around 8, and I still wasn’t really that hungry.

This is zesty orange mojo baked tofu from the Viva Vegan cookbook. I’ve made a few things from this book already, and I’m really excited about it. This tofu had the best texture of any tofu I’ve had, really chewy and almost crusty on the outside, and the flavor in the marinade was pretty good, too. On the side is sauteed spinach, and the drink is some iced pomegranate green tea — pretty color, no?
